This will be the regular season opener for both teams.

Providence Day went 12-1 last year en route to winning its second-consecutive N.C. Independent Schools Athletics Association state championship.

The Charlotte Observer published it’s season’s first high school football rankings this week for schools in both Carolinas. Dutch Fork of Irmo, S.C., was No. 1 and Providence Day was No. 2. Northwestern stands at No. 9.

Dutch Fork is South Carolina’s top rated Class 5A team; Northwestern is the state’s top rated Class 4A team. Northwestern battled Dutch Fork to a 14-14 standoff last week at the WHRI annual football jamboree.
