The Chatham-Kent Fire Department responded to a ditch that went up in flames Thursday.
Emergency services arrived on the scene west of Kent Bridge Road shortly after 2 pm. Several metres of grass had sparked on Northwood Line across the street from the Northwood Christian Church.
Neighbours tried to battle the blaze the old fashioned way with buckets of water. But once flames started to climb a hydro pole they called for fire rescue. Three trucks responded and were quickly able to put out the fire. There were no injuries.
The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known by emergency services and residents in the area hadn't seen how it started. Damage included a long stretch of charred grass and a burnt pole.
