‘This is not farewell’: Jorge Ramos is leaving Univision after almost four decades

Jorge Ramos, one of the most recognized journalists in Spanish language TV, is starting a new chapter.

The Mexico City native is leaving Univision after almost four decades, the network announced Monday.

Ramos and the broadcasting company “mutually agreed not to renew their soon-to-expire contract,” according to a release.

Ramos will step down from his role as co-anchor of “Noticiero Univision” at the end of 2024, following the U.S. presidential election.

“This is not a farewell,” the University of Miami alum said in the release, adding he will announce his professional plans in December after his departure.

Since starting in 1986, Ramos has shared the anchor desk with such other Hispanic TV icons as Enrique Acevedo, Ilia Calderon and Maria Elena Salinas.

Often called the Walter Cronkite of Latin America, the 66-year-old father of two has covered five wars, moderated multiple presidential debates and won 10 Emmy Awards throughout his distinguished career.

“I want to express my respect and gratitude for Jorge Ramos and all he has done for Univision and the growing community we serve each and every day,” Univision News President Daniel Coronell said. “As we look to 2025 and beyond, our talented team is well equipped to continue the tradition of journalistic excellence that has defined ‘Noticiero Univision’ since the beginning.”
