Notley-Iveson-Nenshi T-shirts raise trademark infringement concerns

Mayor Don Iveson sat down in the Edmonton AM studio Monday morning to take Edmontonians' questions, but there was one topic he wasn't able to talk about too much: those Notley-Iveson-Nenshi T-shirts.

Last month, Premier Rachel Notley and Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi posed with the shirts, which are emblazoned with a play on the logo of band Nine Inch Nails.

Iveson himself was not photographed.

On Monday, Iveson had just one word on the topic of the infamous shirts: "infringement."

"We got advice that there were some concerns about the trademark and essentially to cease and desist," he said.

As for whether he received one of the T-shirts, Iveson responded with a laugh.

"On the advice of my attorney, I can't comment."

Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi's office says it is not aware of any legal ramifications, and only three shirts were made with no intention of producing on a large scale for retail.
