Nova Scotia Power recalls Parade of Lights LEDs over safety concerns

Nova Scotia Power is recalling LED lights it handed out during the Parade of Lights on Saturday in Halifax after the IWK Health Centre reported two incidents of young children ingesting the batteries.

The lights came in three colours — red, blue and yellow — and have the words "Home Warming" on one side and "Nova Scotia Power" on the other.

People who return the lights will receive a $10 Sobeys gift card. The lights can be returned on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at Nova Scotia Power's head office at 1223 Lower Water Street, or at booths that will be set up at the Halifax Shopping Centre and Mic Mac Mall.

In a statement, Nova Scotia Power apologized for handing out the lights and says it has filed a report with Health Canada's Consumer Products Safety Directorate and provided it with information.

The company says it will ensure the lights are destroyed once the batteries have been safely removed.
