Nova Scotia RCMP charge 6 in stunting, impaired driving incidents

RCMP investigating report of gun shots in Meadow Lake

Nova Scotia RCMP charged three people in separate incidents of impaired driving and three other drivers were issued tickets for stunting, all with in 24 hours and all in Cumberland and Colchester counties.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday, a 30-year-old Hants County man was arrested and charged after police said he pulled up to a checkpoint in Wentworth showing signs of drug impairment.

He was charged with:

- Operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs.

- Two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Around 11:30 a.m., RCMP say they stopped a vehicle for speeding near Oxford.

Mounties say the driver, a 32-year-old man from Cumberland County, showed signs of impairment and blew over twice the legal blood alcohol limit when given a test.

3 times the legal limit

Shortly after 6:30 p.m., officers involved in a checkpoint in the Tidnish area stopped a man they say showed signs of impairment.

The 46-year-old Cumberland County man was tested and police say he was arrested after blowing three times the legal limit for blood alcohol.

He has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol.

Police say all three men have been released from custody and have court dates in October and November.

RCMP also had to deal with two stunting incidents around the same time period.

At around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, a vehicle was stopped in Brookfield. Police say the driver was travelling 129 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.

Car travelling 205 km/h

The 18-year-old man driving was given a ticket, his vehicle was impounded and his license suspended for seven days.

Later in the day at 4:45 p.m., RCMP say they caught two vehicles racing on Highway 104 near Amherst.

Police say both cars were travelling 205 km/h in a 110 km/h zone.

One driver was a 21-year-old man from Prince Edward Island and the other was a 20-year-old man from New Brunswick.

Both drivers were ticketed for stunting, had their vehicles impounded and licences suspended for a week.

If convicted, all three drivers face a fine of $2422.50.
