Nova Scotia storm leads to flight cancellations and power outages

A storm that brought rain, freezing rain and snow to Nova Scotia Friday and overnight caused cancellations and delays at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport and has left about 350 Nova Scotia Power customers without power as of 2:00 p.m. Saturday. That number of affected customers is down from a high of 13,000.

While many flights arriving this afternoon are listed as being delayed, this morning, many arrivals and departures were cancelled.

In Sydney, it's a different story. At the J.A. Douglas McCurdy Sydney Airport, all of today's arrivals and departures are on time.

Both Marine Atlantic and Bay Ferries are operating according to schedule.

Power problems

As of 2 p.m., Nova Scotia Power was reporting about 350 customers were without power in the Stellarton area. Freezing rain and high winds are the reasons cited behind the outages.

At the peak of the storm, Nova Scotia Power says 13,000 customers were without power.

The company expects all power to be restored by 4 p.m. today.
