Nunavut Mounties probe 3 'suspicious' deaths

The RCMP in Nunavut are continuing their investigation into the "suspicious" deaths of three people, the Kimmirut detachment reported Sunday.

The deceased are a 27-year-old man, 23-year-old woman and their two-year-old child, according to police.

At the request of the family, the names of the deceased are not being released at this time.

The V Division major crime and forensic identification units were called in to assist in the investigation, and the coroner has been notified, the Mounties said in a news release.

The Mounties believe the citizens of Kimmirut are not at risk, the release said.

Kimmirut has experienced numerous violent incidents in recent years.

Last summer, RCMP announced their detachment in Kimmirut was being doubled in size because Mounties had been shot at there eight times over the previous six years.

In March 2012, shots were fired into the homes of two Mounties while they sat inside with their families.

A 20-year-old man was arrested after being disarmed and subdued by 10 fellow citizens.
