Will Obama Pay His E-Toll Bills?

Johannesburg – US President Barack Obama may have moved both the nation and the world in his powerful tribute for former President Nelson Mandela on Monday, but he also travelled through eight e-toll gantries while travelling on Gauteng’s highways, according to a report on MyBroadBand.

According to the tech site Obama’s official vehicle owes now owes R54.07 for the use of Gauteng’s highways. The South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) e-toll website allows the public to check the e-toll balance of any vehicle provided they have the license plate number. The license plates on the White House’s limousine is reportedly 800 002.

It is unknown whether the US President purchased an e-tag before arriving in South Africa.

Obama and his wife Michelle, as well as former Presidents Bill Clinton and his wife Hilary; George Bush and Laura; and Jimmy Carter were in South Africa on Tuesday for the official memorial service for Nelson Mandela.

Obama, along with world leaders like UN Secretary Ba Ki-Moon, African Union Chair, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff spoke at the memorial service. Obama’s tribute to Madiba was met with a standing ovation from the audience gathered at Johannesburg’s FNB stadium where the event was hosted.
