OCBC Cycle 2020 cancelled, with virtual event as replacement
SINGAPORE — The OCBC Cycle 2020 mass cycling event, which was initially postponed from 9 and 10 May to the later part of the year, has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For those who have already registered for the event, full refunds will be made by 14 September. Alternatively, they can choose to donate the registration fee to OCBC Cycle’s chosen charity, Care Corner Singapore, via the event website by 14 August.
In a media release on Tuesday (21 July), event organiser OCBC said that there will instead be a free virtual cycling event over two weeks from 1 to 15 November, when participants can clock up ride distances in Singapore, either indoors or outdoors, over three categories: the Sportive VR (42km), the Straits Times VR (23km) and the Mighty Savers Kids VR (5km or 800m).
Those who completed the ride distances will each receive the OCBC Cycle 2020 medal and the event tote bag by post by 7 December. To show proof of the completion, they have to use a fitness tracker or a workout app that can record the ride details, and submit the details by 15 November.
Participants do not need to complete the full distance within one ride, but can do so over a maximum of four separate rides between 1 and 15 November.
Those who had originally registered for the original OCBC Cycle event can sign up for the Virtual Ride first, between 21 July and 14 August. Thereafter, those who did not register for the physical event can sign up between 15 August and 18 September.
Participants can download an electronic copy of the event certificate from the event website after their submitted virtual ride details are verified.
They can also join a free series of home-based training programmes to built up their fitness levels, organised by OCBC together with partners 100Plus and Garmin. More details of these home-based workouts and online rides will be announced on the event website and Facebook page.
