Odell Beckham Jr. Gets Real as GQ’s August Cover Star

With an uncommon level of candor, Beckham Jr. talks about The Catch, being traded to the Browns, and why he almost retired at 24.

Odell Beckham Jr. isn't big on reading into signs, but he does find it pretty funny that the Rolls-Royce he purchased in December 2018—three months before he was traded from the New York Giants to the Cleveland Browns—is orange. If you ever catch Beckham Jr. driving around, you'll see the Rolls-Royce explicitly references his greatest individual achievement to date, The Catch, which is commemorated with a chrome figurine hood ornament.

For GQ's August cover story, Beckham Jr. spoke to Mark Anthony Green about that legendary 2014 one-handed reception against the Dallas Cowboys, as well as everything else from his whirlwind NFL career to date. That includes the criticisms he's faced in the media and around the league (many of which he doesn't think are valid), the time he gave 100 Casper mattresses to teammates, and the reasons why he almost retired from football at age 24. He also delves into the present: how he feels about gossip sites speculating about his dating life, if he believes he can eclipse a highlight as spectacular as The Catch (spoiler: yes, he does), and, of course, his honest opinion of quarterback Baker Mayfield's dance moves.

Plus, he shows off his unique sense of style, with the help of photographer Paola Kudacki.
