Oilers' Mikko Koskinen ties dubious record with zero stops on four shots
It was a rough night between the pipes for Edmonton Oilers netminder Mikko Koskinen.
With Edmonton giving veteran goaltender Mike Smith a night off, head coach Dave Tippett turned to Koskinen to shut down a Vancouver Canucks team that had lost six straight games ahead of Thursday’s contest. Unfortunately, Smith’s break was short-lived, lasting just 12 minutes and 22 seconds as Koskinen allowed four goals on four shots before being benched.

Koskinen’s stick didn’t stand a chance after Jayce Hawyrluk’s shot squeaked by him.
The 32-year-old etched his name into infamy with his performance, as he became just the third-goalie ever to earn zero saves on four-plus shot attempts, and the first since Washington Capitals goalie Don Beaupre did so on November 24, 1989 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The 2020-21 campaign hasn’t been Koskinen’s finest. Entering Thursday’s game, Koskinen owned a .905 save percentage and 2.99 goals-against-average, both marking his lowest totals since he was a member of the New York Islanders in 2010-11.
