‘My Old Ass’ Breakout Star Maisy Stella Joins Maude Apatow’s Directorial Debut ‘Poetic License’
EXCLUSIVE: Maisy Stella, the breakout star of the Sundance hit film, My Old Ass, has joined the cast of Maude Apatow’s feature directorial debut, Poetic License. The film also stars Andrew Barth Feldman, Cooper Hoffman and Leslie Mann. Maude will direct. Raffi Donatich penned the script.
Marking the first produced project for Jewelbox Pictures, Apatow’s recently launched production company with longtime collaborator and friend Olivia Rosenbloom, on which we were first to report, Poetic License follows Liz, a former therapist and soon-to-be empty nester, as she becomes the unexpected point of tension between two inseparable best friends and college seniors, Sam and Ari. Liz is forced to reexamine her life as the boys’ friendship unravels in a fierce competition for her affection.

Earlier this week, Maisy received a Gotham Award nomination in the category of Breakthrough Performer.
MY OLD ASS, which is a beautiful coming of age story, is produced by LuckyChap and Indian Paintbrush and debuted at Sundance Film Festival in January 2024. The overall film and specifically Maisy’s breakout performance received critical acclaim, which is marked by Maisy’s ability to bring a raw authenticity to the role as the heart of the film. The film was quickly acquired by Amazon MGM Studios for a theatrical release on September 13, 2024. The film will release on Prime Video on November 7th.
Earlier this year, Maisy wrapped production on David Robert Mitchell’s Flowervale Street, opposite Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor. The film will open in IMAX on May 16, 2025.
