There are many scents we wish we could bottle and then sniff whenever we fancied a cosy burst of nostalgia: the smell of our childhood home, the head of our newborn or the scent of our hotel room on holiday.

Sadly, none of these are possible (as far as we know) but there is one pretty-universally loved smell that you can now get in candle form: the scent of old books.

That’s right, you can stop scuttling into bookshops and hiding yourself amongst the shelves because you can now get your daily dose of musky paper by simply lighting a wick at home.

The Old Books Book Lover Candle is made of soy (much better for you than lots of other wax types) and has a soft, comforting scent makes you want to curl up in your favourite reading chair and leaf through stacks of worn, well-loved stories.

Vanilla overtones transform into a lovely, complex aroma when melted and conjure up the scent of aged paper and musky shelves.

Buy it: Old Books Book Lover Candle | £14.42 from Etsy

And if you thought you were alone in wanting your home to smell of old books, you thought wrong, because a whopping 23,600 people have flocked to marketplace site Etsy to lavish praise on the quirky candle.

“Unique scent, perfect to fill the air while I read!” one fan wrote, while another commented: “Bought as a gift for a book lover. And she said she loves it. Not a strong book smell but still smells like books.”

We’re sold - not only will this save us money and make our home smell great it will also stop us looking weird when people catch us with our noses pressed into the spine of a Jane Austen novel.
