Olivia Attwood feared she was going to be left with "no show" at all after revealing a startling twist to the contestants on Olivia Attwood's Bad Boyfriends.
The ITV reality show sees eight men heading to what they think is a "Brotopia" packed full of "manhood and bromance in a hedonistic holiday mecca". But they get a shock when they are told that the programme isn't real and that the real reason they are there is that they are bad boyfriends and their girlfriends want them to shape up.
Speaking on ITV's This Morning, Attwood explained that she faced a tense 24 hours after she had revealed the truth, as they had to wait and see whether the men would stay and the show could go on. "It was horrible!" she exclaimed.
What, how and why?
"It was somewhat of a military operation getting those lads out there, keeping it all under wraps, making sure they actually believed in Brotopia," she said. "They did, which then made it almost scarier because when I go out there to reveal the real show to them, I was nervous and I don't really get nervous.
"I thought, 'I don't know how they are going to react - what if some of them want to leave and we have no show'," said the Love Island star. "And all these things are going through my head."
She went on: "You know what it's like, you have to give people a cooling off period, you can't make anyone stay. So it was a real thing of like, are they genuinely going to re-consent to this new show? We had a 24 hour period where all we had to do was sit and wait. It was horrible."
The star said there was the possibility of waking up the next day to "no show". "We had been making this thing for over a year and they could all just go, 'No, I'm not doing this'," she said.
Luckily, all eight ended up staying, although Attwood said they had "mixed reactions" to finding out the Brotopia series was a smokescreen.
"Some of them were very explosive out of the gate," she said. "Some of them it kind of bubbled on for a few days, some took it quite well.
"That is their big shock obviously but there are shocks that follow that they took worse than the girlfriends being there and the show being fake."
What we know about Olivia Attwood's Bad Boyfriends?
In the programme, which also features Strictly star Pete Wicks, the men jet off to a Greek island for a raft of fun activities and some male bonding. Then Attwood suddenly turns up to announce their partying days are on hold.
"Brotopia is over, you are in my hands now and this is a whole new show," she tells them. "Here is the reason - you all have something in common, you are all bad boyfriends - flirts, man children and cheaters."
The star tells the men that their partners have "had enough", adding: "I am going to attempt to help eight long-suffering girlfriends reform their problem partners."
The girlfriends also turn up, and the contestants will then compete in a series of challenges that are supposed to help them change their ways. They face eliminations along the way, and the ultimate goal is being crowned the most improved boyfriend.
It runs for 11 episodes and show bosses have said viewers can expect "tough love, lots of humour and plenty of mischief, alongside unexpected revelations and explosive scenes".
Olivia Attwood's Bad Boyfriends is on ITV this September.
