Olympic hopefuls rejoin Canada's World Cup canoe-kayak team

Olympic hopeful Mark Oldershaw rejoins Canada's canoe-kayak roster for the second event of ICF World Cup this weekend in Racice, Czech Republic.

The event begins at 5 a.m ET and will be live-streamed here on CBCSports.ca.

Oldershaw, who competes in the C1 1,000 event, secured a quota for Canada last week at the continental qualifiers in Gainesville, Ga. However, the two-time Olympian from Burlington, Ont., will have to wait to learn whether he will be competing in Rio.

According to Canoe Kayak Canada, the situation for Oldershaw and fellow candidate Ben Tardioli became more complicated after Tardioli finished second in the C1 200 event last week. If both had won, the berth would have gone to whomever had the better World Cup results. The organization's high-performance committee, which will make the final decision, is currently reviewing the situation.

Strong start to the circuit

Katie Vincent started her World Cup season with a record-setting gold-medal performance in the C1 200 event in Duisburg, Germany.

Several Canadians will be rejoining Canada's World Cup roster, including recent Olympic qualifiers Adam van Koeverden and Andréanne Langlois.

Michelle Russell, who lost a race-off to Émilie Fournel to determine Canada's K1 500 representative, returns to the ICF World Cup with a final chance at Rio still on the table. Russell, alongside Madeline Schmidt, will race off against Genevieve Orton and Kathleen Fraser in the K2 500 during the national team trials in Montreal on June 24-26 according to Canoe Kayak Canada.
