The Austrian Olympic Committee confirmed snowboarder Markus Schairer broke his neck while competing in the quarterfinal run on Thursday. Thankfully, Schairer did not suffer any neurological damage.

The 30-year-old three-time Olympian seemed to lose control of his board mid-air on the penultimate jump of the course, landing so hard on his back his goggles flew off his helmet and into the air. PEOPLE reports Schairer laid motionless on the snow for minutes before eventually getting to his feet unaided.

Schairer's been transported back to Austria for further medical treatment, and per ESPN.com, is now in stable condition. Hoping he has a speedy and full recovery.
