Omid Scobie’s Endgame

Endgame caused further contention when it was pulled from the bookshelves in the Netherlands after it named two members of the Royal family said to be at the heart of a racism scandal involving the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Readers questioned the accuracy of the contents of Omid Scobie’s book and defended many members of the Royal family that the book took aim at.

Elgin Marbles row

The Elgin Marbles were back in the news and the subject of a diplomatic row after Rishi Sunak cancelled a meeting with the Greek prime minister who publicly lobbied for Britain to change its stance on the ancient sculptures.

While some readers thought Rishi Sunak’s decision to cancel the meeting was petty and foolish, others argued that his response was justified and he was correct to stand his ground. Above all, readers were keen for this dispute to be resolved and offered their solutions.

Migration

Rishi Sunak has been met with anger among Tory MPs this week after speaking at the second global investment summit.

The Prime Minister said Britain did not “have a monopoly on talent” and that liberal border restrictions, especially for graduates, were essential for economic growth.

Although readers recognised that some migration is needed, many insisted that there needs to be tougher restrictions to control the high numbers of foreign workers coming to the UK.
