One dead, another injured in two-vehicle crash Wednesday in University Place area
One person was killed and another transported to a local hospital after a collision involving two vehicles Wednesday afternoon in the area of Tacoma-University Place.
Emergency crews were called to the accident in the area of 48th Street West and Orchard Street West, which occurred just after 12:30 p.m. According to a social media post from the Tacoma Police Department, officials closed Orchard Street West while investigators worked the scene. A later department statement, posted at 6:21 p.m., said the road had reopened and police had arrested someone connected to the incident.
One person was declared dead at the scene, while another was transported to a local hospital, according to Tacoma Fire Department media representative Chelsea Shepherd.
Tacoma Police Department spokesman detective William Muse told The News Tribune via email Wednesday evening that “The suspect was transported to a local hospital for evaluation prior to being booked into the Pierce County Jail on one count of vehicular homicide.”
