Woman in her 20s dead after single vehicle crashes into utility pole in Mississauga

A woman in her 20s is dead and a man was injured after a single vehicle crashed in Mississauga on Saturday night.

Peel police said the crash happened in the area of Erin Centre Boulevard and Glen Erin Drive. Emergency crews were called to the scene shortly before 9 p.m.

Duty Insp. David De Angelis, of Peel police, said the vehicle was travelling eastbound on Erin Centre Boulevard when it left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a utility pole.

De Angelis said the woman died at the scene. The man, a passenger, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a local hospital.

According to De Angelis, investigators from the Major Collision Bureau are "trying to piece together" what exactly caused the crash.

Roads in the area were closed as officers investigated but have since reopened.
