One dead, one injured after police shoot two men in Markham, Ont.; SIU investigating

MARKHAM, Ont. — Ontario's police watchdog says one man is dead and another has been taken to hospital after they were shot by officers northeast of Toronto.

The Special Investigations Unit says a spokesperson was headed to the scene in a residential Markham, Ont., neighbourhood near Eyer Drive and Rodick Road.

The SIU says one man died at the scene and did not immediately provide details on the second man's condition.

York Regional Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but a spokesperson says police will issue a statement.

The SIU is called to investigate when police conduct may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault or the discharge of a firearm.
