One dead in shooting outside Northland Walmart, Kansas City police say

A person was fatally shot outside of a Walmart supercenter in the Northland Wednesday afternoon, according to Kansas City police.

The shooting occurred in the 8600 block of N. Boardwalk Avenue, in the parking lot of the Shops at the Boardwalk shopping mall, according to Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a Kansas City Police Department spokesperson.

The victim was initially listed as critically injured.

Wednesday’s shooting was the 96th homicide reported in Kansas City this year, according to data collected by The Star. At this time last year, 133 homicides had been reported in the city.
