One dead after shooting Saturday in Columbus, police say

One man is dead following a shooting Saturday in the 2900 block of Colorado Street in Columbus, authorities say.

The victim has been identified as Delarance Jones, 31, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

Police say EMS arrived and couldn’t resuscitate Jones. He was pronounced dead by Deputy Coroner Ben Saxon at 11:37 a.m., according to police.

The Columbus Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit has taken lead on the investigation, authorities say.

This is at least the 34th homicide to occur in Columbus this year, according to a list compiled by the Ledger-Enquirer.
