One fatality, multiple rescues reported after fire at senior apartments in Cahokia Heights
One fatality and multiple rescues were reported in a Wednesday afternoon fire at Touchette Elderly Apartments in Cahokia Heights.
The five-alarm fire was reported at 2:13 p.m. at the Bond Avenue facility, said Assistant Fire Chief Sharon Davis of the Camp Jackson Fire Department. Firefighters from multiple departments from nearby communities were called in to assist.
Davis confirmed that one fatality happened, but no other details were available.
Over 50 people were rescued from the complex, according to Fire Chief Chris Davis. Residents were taken to temporary shelter nearby.
