From Popular Mechanics

If you’ve ever struggled to carry a cast iron skillet heavy with burgers from the grill or stove over to a tabletop with just one long handle, then you’re probably in the market for a pan with dual handles. The good news is that one of our favorite cast iron brands, Smithey Ironware, has just released a new skillet with this design. The No. 14 features 1.5-inch handles on either side of its (you guessed it) 14-inch diameter.

This skillet retails for $240, which seems like a hefty price to pay compared to more affordable cast iron like Lodge. However, Smithey’s cast iron earned top marks in our searing and heat distributions tests when we recently tested their No. 12 skillet alongside 9 other competitors. While the smaller Smithey skillets have short helper handles, they don’t have a full loop handle that allows you to easily wrap a mitted hand around like the new 14-inch version.

The 12-inch Smithey was already the heaviest skillet we tested, so expect the even larger dual-handle model to weigh at least 10 pounds. Because of its size, it’s probably not suited for smaller stovetop burners, but will work great for heating in the oven or on the grill.

As with all Smithey skillets, you’ll pay a premium price for their machine-polished interiors that rival the smoothness of those vintage hand-polished skillets you’d find at flea markets and antique shops. Plus, quality cast iron should last at least a lifetime, if not for generations, so why not invest in one with a gorgeous glossy surface?

Whether you’re making a homemade pizza in the oven or searing steaks on the grill, the No. 14 looks like it’ll be the best cookware for the job.
