KRYSTEN PEEK: I'm Krysten Peek here with Cam Whitmore. We're at USA Basketball U18 tryouts in Houston, Texas. Cam, you're back here on the court. I feel like you've been everywhere this spring. How has the competition been out here?

CAM WHITMORE: Good. Everybody's competitive. Everybody's playing the same, and everybody's moving the ball. So we're having fun.

KRYSTEN PEEK: And where have you seen the most improvement in your game maybe from the fall through to the spring to now?

CAM WHITMORE: I'd say being comfortable on the ball, facilitating, just being comfortable getting my teammates involved. And that's really it, yeah.

KRYSTEN PEEK: I feel like you kind of had a breakout spring, especially at the All-Star games with McDonald's, Hoop Summit, Jordan Brand, and on. What were you hoping to show the NBA scouts that were in attendance to watch you?

CAM WHITMORE: Just that I'm mainly just versatile. I can do everything on the floor, both ends, offensively, defensively. And yeah, that's really it.

KRYSTEN PEEK: And you're heading to Villanova. What is it about the culture that Jay Wright built there that made you want to go and play at Villanova?

CAM WHITMORE: Just a brotherhood. Everybody treats everybody the same. Nobody is different. And everybody's competitive, even in practice. The practice really shocked me. It was a different practice than everybody else. Everybody was competitive, especially on defense. So that's what I really liked about it.

KRYSTEN PEEK: OK. And Jay Wright isn't going to be there next year. Were you shocked, like everybody else, by the news?

CAM WHITMORE: Yeah, I mean, it broke out kind of quick, so I didn't really think it was going to happen. But it happened. So, yeah.

KRYSTEN PEEK: Yeah, and Coach Neptune is coming in. How's your relationship with him?

CAM WHITMORE: We clicked ever since we met. So he was a good coach, same guy, same head coach, but different guys. So I think it's going to be a good fit.

KRYSTEN PEEK: What is he saying to you on how you can come in next year and contribute right away on the team?

CAM WHITMORE: He said I could be one and done, but it depends how I play. So I got to earn my minutes, play hard on the court, and I'll get my minutes.

KRYSTEN PEEK: I mean, there's always a big jump from high school to college and then college to the pros. Where do you envision the most work that you're going to have to put in this summer to make that jump to be effective at the college level?

CAM WHITMORE: Just got to get my reps for shooting. That's it. Just reps, reps for shooting. That's it, yeah.

KRYSTEN PEEK: Is that where-- your kind of bread and butter is the shot? Because you were a bucket.

CAM WHITMORE: Yeah, yeah. Once I get that down, then yeah, I'm set. Yeah. That's what I think, so.

KRYSTEN PEEK: OK. And looking at Villanova, what are you most looking forward to next year? Is there a game that you are mentally looking forward to playing? I mean, have you even looked at the schedule or looked at who they've played in the past?

CAM WHITMORE: Probably just the tournament, just March Madness, and I'm really looking forward to that, how they reached the Final Four. So I just want to be part of that.

KRYSTEN PEEK: OK. And, you know, you did get a lot of attention from NBA scouts this spring. Saying everything goes well, that one and done, what do you-- what are your goals next year to kind of get you to that point where you can be a one and done out of Villanova?

CAM WHITMORE: Just try to be the best player I can be, to, you know, someone that gets the teammates involved, and also still be that person that can get a bucket. So my goal is trying to win a national championship and also a Big East championship, but, like, personal goal of trying to be Big East Player of the Year. So, yeah, yeah.

KRYSTEN PEEK: I like it. Shooting for the stars, right?

CAM WHITMORE: Yeah, I got to.

KRYSTEN PEEK: All right, Cam, thank you so much.

CAM WHITMORE: Thank you.

KRYSTEN PEEK: Good luck the rest of the weekend here. For more information on Cam Whitmore and his college journey, keep it right here on Yahoo Sports.
