Stabbing leaves pregnant woman dead at Columbus apartment complex, authorities say

One person has died after a stabbing at the Elizabeth Canty Homes apartment complex Friday, according to the Columbus Police Department.

A press release from CPD indicated Chasity Dean, 20, was found suffering from a stab wound when CPD officers responded to a 911 call around 1:50 p.m. Friday.

She was transported to a nearby hospital where she was confirmed to be pregnant. Both Dean and the fetus were pronounced dead around 2:30 p.m.

CPD’s Violent Crimes Unit was investigating the stabbing Friday, the department said on social media. The release said early investigation identified the victim’s husband, Kyle Dean, 20, as the suspect.

He was taken into custody in east Alabama Friday night and transported to the Lee County Jail, where he is awaiting extradition to Columbus.

The stabbing comes less than three weeks after the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Michael Scott at the complex.

Police urged anyone with information on the stabbing to call 911.
