One person dead in Mississauga after shootings at two locations

A man is dead and two locations are being probed after a pair of shootings in Mississauga Saturday morning. Police are still trying to figure out whether the incidents are related.

Peel Police say that just before 4 a.m. they received numerous 9-1-1 calls about a disturbance at Queen Street South and Thomas Street. When they arrived, they found a deceased male victim.

About 30 minutes later, police and paramedics were called to the scene of a shooting 2.5 kilometres away at a gas station.

Police say that the fatal shooting near Church Street South happened after a disturbance behind a nearby banquet hall.

They confirm that a homicide investigation is underway.

Const. Harinder Sohi said police are looking for witnesses, as 9-1-1 callers said that several people were fleeing the area at the time.

"We do believe there's a number of witnesses and we're asking them to come forward," he said.

Second shooting, police not sure if connected

At the gas station, near Eglinton Avenue West and Creditview Road, police found an SUV dotted with bullet holes and two men shot inside.

Sohi said they're not sure whether the two incidents are related.

The two males in the SUV were transported to a trauma centre. One was in life-threatening condition; however, he has since been upgraded to serious and stable condition.

The other man's injuries were determined not to be life-threatening. Both victims are still in hospital.

No suspect information has been released.

Christian McDonald lives in the Streetsville neighbourhood where the fatal shooting occurred. He said he was surprised to see police cruisers outside when he woke up and calls the shooting "super concerning."

"We moved here because it's a really safe neighbourhood — it's supposed to be," he said.

"You just don't expect those things, but apparently they still happen."
