Onlookers ogle high-priced chartered yacht during visit to Saint John

The Mondango 3, a 185-foot private yacht, sailed into Port Saint John on Wednesday.

According to the website of the company that operates the vessel, Burgess Yachts, the Mondango 3 costs between $285,000 and $324,000 per week to charter, depending on the time of the year.

"That yacht? I'd sure take it for a sail," said Alan Calder, one of many onlookers who dropped by the port to admire the vessel.

"That's too much money for anybody in this part of the world to even think about."

The yacht was built in 2014 in New Zealand. In the summer, it primarily cruises in Bermuda, and was also flying a Bermudan flag while in the harbour on Wednesday.

According to Paula Copeland of Port Saint John, the boat was carrying 10 crew and two passengers.

The Mondango 3 boasts five bedrooms, a Jacuzzi, a dining room, and a 103-inch television. It also has Wi-Fi.

Onlookers filtered into the port all afternoon, dreaming of a vacation at sea.

"It's a beautiful boat, that's what it is," Calder said.

"Looks like it has computerized sails on it and everything, worth millions and millions of dollars that is."
