Ontario men arrested in Winnipeg woman's slaying

Toronto police have arrested two men in connection with the slaying of Leanne Freeman, the 23-year-old woman who was found shot on the eastern edge of downtown Toronto.

Police said Friday afternoon that Joseph Beauregard, 31, of Whitby, had been arrested and will be charged with first-degree murder.

John Ash, 23, of Toronto, was also arrested and will be charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder.

Ash was slated to appear in a Toronto courtroom on Friday, while Beauregard was to appear on Saturday.

"The investigation into Leanne's murder is not yet over," said Det.-Sgt. Brian Borg. "I would encourage anybody still having information to come forward and provide assistance."

Freeman was found unconscious and bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head in the early morning hours on Nov. 29. She was found in the Port Lands, an isolated industrial area, and her clothes were found in a dumpster near where she was dumped on the road.

Police previously said they believed she was killed by someone she knew.

Freeman, who was from Winnipeg but had been living in Toronto for several months, had been battling an addiction the crystal meth, according to her family and friends.
