Ontario teen calls 911 after being ‘forced’ to go on vacation with family

Instead of happy memories, a teen who refused to go on a family vacation ended up calling the police to complain.

While at a rental cottage in Trent Hills, Ontario, the 15-year-old girl from Mississauga called 911 and said her “parents forced her to go on vacation with them,” Hamilton Spectator reports.

Despite the unusual emergency call, the police still responded to ensure the family was safe. They found the teen with her face buried in her hands, saying she didn’t want to be there.

“This appeared to be a case of a teenager being a teenager,” Northumberland OPP Const. Stephen Bates told Toronto Star. “Although she perceived this as a real issue, it was not appropriate use of 911.”

After confirming the girl was safe, OPP cautioned her about the proper use of the emergency number. Complaining about a family vacation is not a reason to call 911 since it “ties up police resources.”
