What’s open and closed on Thanksgiving Day: MS Coast garbage pickup, libraries, more

Government offices and services are closed on Thursday to observe the Thanksgiving holiday.

Here’s what you need to know about trash pickup and more in Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties, as well as cities including Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, Ocean Springs and Biloxi.

GARBAGE COLLECTION

Harrison County:

Waste Management household trash and recycling, Pelican Waste - debris piles will not run on Thanksgiving Day. Thursday customers will be serviced Friday and Friday customers will be serviced Saturday.

Jackson County:

Most Jackson County offices will be closed. The County Landfill on Seaman Road and the Animal Shelter in Gautier will also be closed on Saturday, November 25.

Waste Management will be closed on Thanksgiving. Thursday customers will be serviced Friday and Friday customers will be serviced Saturday.

Waste Pro:

Garbage, trash and recycling will not run Thursday. For those who receive twice a week garbage collection, Thursday’s collection will be skipped.

For recycling and those who receive once a week garbage collection, service will run a day behind for the remainder of the week.

Coastal Environmental Services:

Diamondhead, Bay St. Louis, Waveland, unincorporated areas of Hancock County: Residents normally served Thursday will be served Friday. Residents normally served Friday will be served Saturday. Please, have carts out by 4 a.m. on the pick up day. The office will be closed Thursday and Friday. Office hours and regular routes will resume Monday.

George County: Thursday routes will be picked up Friday.

In Harrison County, garbage service will not run on Thanksgiving Day. If your service day is Thursday, it will be skipped and run on your next service day. Recycle and bulk pickup will run one day behind.

GOVERNMENT OFFICES

Closed Thursday and Friday, reopens Monday: Bay St. Louis, Biloxi, Diamondhead, D’Iberville, Gautier, Gulfport, Hancock County, Harrison County, Jackson County, Long Beach, Moss Point, Ocean Springs, Pascagoula, Pass Christian, Stone County Courthouse, U.S. District Court, Waveland and Wiggins.

LIBRARIES

Hancock County Library System: Closed Thursday and Friday, open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, closed Sunday and reopens Monday.

Harrison County Library System: Closed Thursday-Sunday, reopens Monday.

Jackson/George Regional Library System: Closes at 5 p.m. Wednesday and remains closed Thursday-Sunday, reopens Monday.

Long Beach Library: Closes at noon Wednesday and remains closed Thursday-Sunday, reopens Monday.

Pearl River County Library System: closed Thursday and Friday.

TRANSPORTATION

Coast Transit Authority: All fixed-route service operates on a Sunday time schedule on Thanksgiving Day. Normal service will resume Friday. The CTA office will close at 3 p.m. Wednesday and reopen at 8 a.m. Monday.

UTILITIES

Closed Thursday and Friday (crews will be on call and dispatchers on duty for outages): West Jackson County Utilities, Harrison County Utility Authority, Mississippi Power Co., Gautier Utility District and Coast Electric Power Association.

OTHERS

Closed Thursday and Friday: Harrison, Hancock and Jackson counties’ health departments
