OPP charge man with drug trafficking charges amid sudden death investigation

LONGLAC - Ontario Provincial Police in Greenstone have spent the last six months investigating the death of a 29-year-old man who is believed to have died from a suspected drug overdose.

Greenstone OPP said in a news release issued Monday, Nov. 9, they were first alerted to the death on April 26 in Longlac. After a six month investigation, police and in conjunction with the Office of the Coroner have charged Jacob Wattie, 24, with three counts of trafficking in a scheduled one substance.

“Although the investigation did not yield charges specifically related to the overdose death, a 24-year-old Russell Township resident has been charged with several drug offences for allegedly trafficking to the deceased,” the release said.

The accused made a brief court appearance on Friday, Nov. 6 and was remanded into custody.
