The Original Hocus Pocus Sanderson Sisters Are Reuniting

UPDATE: October 27, 2020—The Sanderson sisters just gave a preview of sorts of what's to come when A Hocus Pocus Hulaween goes down on Friday, October 30. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy just reunited on Zoom a few days before the event to get out the vote…and cast a spell. Watch it for yourself, below:

This comes just a day after Midler told Good Day New York this about the sisters doing a Hocus Pocus sequel: “They want to make a movie; they’ve asked us if we were interested, and, of course, all of us said yes.” Ahhh!

UPDATE: October 19, 2020—Our 300-year wait is up. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy have reunited in their original Hocus Pocus costumes. “Your 3 fav witches—@sarahjessicaparker @kathynajimy & ME—are returning for 1 night only on 10/30 at 8p ET,” Bette Midler wrote on Instagram on October 18. Tickets for the one-hour virtual event, In Search of the Sanderson Sisters: A Hocus Pocus Hulaween Takeover, are available now for $10.

The benefit, in support of the New York Restoration Project, will also feature Glenn Close, Billy Crystal, Jamie Lee Curtis, John Debney, Samantha Diaz, Harry Guinness, Todrick Hall, Jennifer Hudson, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Michael Kors, Adam Lambert, George Lopez, Alex Moffat, Vanessa Shaw, Martin Short, Sarah Silverman, John Stamos, Meryl Streep, Kenan Thompson, Sophie von Haselberg, and more.

ORIGINAL STORY: September 25, 2020—

The original Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus are reuniting.

Yes, that’s right: Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy are all joining forces again, but it’s not for a Hocus Pocus sequel (sadly). Rather, the three legends will team up for Midler’s annual Hulaween costume gala, benefiting the New York Restoration Project (NYRP). The event is virtual this year and will be called “In Search of the Sanderson Sisters: A Hocus Pocus Hulaween Takeover” to commemorate just how exciting this reunion is.

No word yet on what Parker, Midler, and Najimy will do during their reunion. Maybe a cover of “I Put a Spell on You?” A table read of the Hocus Pocus script?

Regardless, maybe this event will inspire the three legends to actually get together for a sequel. It’s something all three have expressed interest in doing, but for some reason the cards haven’t fallen into place. A Hocus Pocus sequel is in the works at Disney+, but the original stars aren’t attached to it.

“Oh, my goodness me. Oh, I hope they get to me before I’m a corpse,” Midler told Entertainment Tonight last year about doing a sequel. “We wanna fly again. I hope Disney+ is a big success and I hope we get to do it, because [Winifred] is of course one of my favorite characters…. I can’t wait to read the script. We’re gonna see what happens.”

“I heard about it online the same time as [everyone else]. But here’s the honest answer: Sarah and Bette and I all have a million projects and things that we’re into, so I don’t know if they’re gonna offer us [roles]. I don’t know if the worlds are going to collide so that we could all three do it at the same time,” Najimy also told ET last year. “But I’m happy that it’s happening, because the fans are really rabid and they really want it. [And] if we’re not all available to star in it, I think it would be so great to do a cameo. I think that’d be really fun.”

This year’s Hulaween gala will certainly be fun too. It happens October 30. Streaming tickets are on sale now and cost $10.
