Ottawa Hospital to change name of Ride the Rideau charity race

Cycling fundraiser Ride the Rideau will be getting a new name along with a new route, following the fatal crash last year that killed cyclist Laurie Strano.

The Ottawa Hospital Foundation said Tuesday it would be holding a news conference Thursday at the general campus to outline the changes to the route, rider preparedness and the new name and branding for the event.

Organizers had announced the route change last month after surveying riders and consulting with a task force that included Ottawa's chief of police.

The route will not include the spot where Strano died in a collision with a dump truck in September 2014.
