Ouellette cruise celebrates Windsor's role as the car capital of Canada

Gleaming chrome and rumbling engines transformed downtown Windsor into rolling display of automotive artistry Friday evening.

The second annual Ouellette Car Cruise welcomed an estimated 1,000 participants and their stylish wheels to Canada's car capital.

Cruisers gathered at the Riverfront Festival Plaza before the event got motoring at 6 p.m.

George Dobrich arrived a little early to show off his '57 Chevy.

"It was always my dream to have one when I grow up and it took me 40 years to get one," he said, describing it as his "gem."

Dobrich added one thing he loves about cruising is waving to everyone he passes and seeing them enjoy his beautiful car.

"Every time I sit in the car I remember all of the good memories," he said.

Cars will roll down Ouellette Avenue and east on Pillette Street until 11 p.m. with pit stops at Motor City Chrysler and Kipping Tire on Ouellette.

Free live music will be provided at the plaza by Muscle Cars & Classics.

Rick Remdenok said he brought his Bricklin SV-1 down to the riverfront to help support downtown Windsor and to celebrate the city's car culture.

"Everybody around here is sort of a car person because Windsor is a car town," he explained. "Everybody grew up around cars and loves them."
