Over 10,000 Eggs Recalled Over Salmonella Concerns
Over 10,000 eggs sold at Costco have been recalled over Salmonella concerns.
The affected eggs were sold under the Kirkland Signature brand.
Here’s how to know if you have any contaminated products.
Over 10,000 Costco eggs sold under the Kirkland Signature brand are being recalled due to potential Salmonella contamination. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notified the public of the egg recall late last week.
The eggs came from Handsome Brook Farms, a New York-based organic egg supplier, and were sold under the Kirkland Signature brand name. Specifically, the organic, pasture-raised, 24-count eggs were affected. According to the company, the eggs were sold starting November 22 and distributed to 25 Costco locations across the following states:
Alabama
Georgia
North Carolina
South Carolina
Tennessee
The recall covers 10,800 packages of eggs so far, which include the following information on the packaging:
Numbers 327 and P1363
“Use by” date of January 5, 2025
As of now, there have been no reported illnesses linked to the recall, per the FDA. This egg recall is separate from another outbreak of Salmonella in eggs that led to a reported 93 illnesses and 34 hospitalizations in 12 states.
People who purchased the recalled eggs should throw them out or stop using them and return them to Costco for a full refund. If consumers have further questions, they can also reach out to Handsome Brook Farms via phone at 646-733-4532, ext. 1, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST, or via email at recall@hbfeggs.com.
If you have any of the affected product, do not eat it. Salmonella is a bacteria that may cause severe infections, especially in children, older people, and people with weakened immune systems. The most common symptoms are diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain—and they can develop anytime between six hours and six days after you ingest the bacteria.
Most people recover in a few days without help from antibiotics, but some—including the very young, very old, and immunocompromised people—may have more severe illness that requires hospitalization.
Call your doctor if you have any of these severe Salmonella symptoms:
Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102°F
Diarrhea lasting more than three days and that is not improving
Bloody diarrhea
Vomiting to the point that you cannot keep liquids down
Signs of dehydration, such as not peeing much, dry mouth and throat, or feeling dizzy when standing up
