If you've ever dreamed of owning your own original home inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, now you've got a chance to own two of them—and the best part? They're both located on an entire private island that could be yours, if you've got a nice chunk of change to spare.
Currently, 1 Petre Island in Carmel, New York, is up for sale for $9.95 million, which is almost a $3 million price drop from its $12.9 million listing price in 2018. Now, it's available as a short-term rental this summer for a cool $40,000 a month. The entire island actually has three properties in total, but only two of them were designed by the legendary architect himself. To get to the island, you'll need your own boat or helicopter—or both!—and don't worry, there's a fully functional helipad for those of you that choose the latter transportation method.
The four-bedroom main residence overlooks the surrounding body of water, Lake Mahopac, and has sweeping views of the cool blue waters from the many wraparound windows of the property—it's basically a home and a vacation all in one. The second, smaller home sits directly next to the main house, so they both share the same picturesque views of the water.
While the second home was based on Frank Lloyd Wright's original sketches, it's not actually recognized by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation—he would've had to build the house himself for it to attain that status.
“Not only is the home’s design and architecture inspired by its surroundings, but it is built within the land,” Margaret Harrington, the agent for this listing, told Inman. "The intent is to fully immerse yourself and enjoy the lush environment.”
The island also has a tea house, and a private dock and beach so you can truly connect with the nature around you.
