P.E.I. Canada Games team wraps up week one of competition

P.E.I.'s Canada Games team is already touting some personal bests as week one of the competition wrapped up in Prince George, B.C.

Island athletes competed in archery, biathlon and wheelchair basketball.

The wheelchair basketball team narrowly missed winning bronze Friday night in a game against Alberta.

Joanne Wallace, the chef de mission for Team P.E.I., says the team is also making good gains on the ice.

"The ringette team came up with a big win. One of the girls on the team would only have been a baby the last time that their team had a win, which was back in 1999 against Saskatchewan," she said.

"It was a big come-behind win, so it was pretty exciting for the girls. They've worked hard and they were pretty excited about the win."

Wallace says there has been a lot of support in the stands from Maritimers and Islanders who have relocated to B.C.

The second week of competition includes judo, squash, women's curling and men's hockey.
