P.E.I.'s positive parenting program growing

Since it was launched last fall, the province's Triple P [Positive Parenting Program] continues to grow.

And for the program's coordinator, that growth shows how much the program is needed as Islanders want to become better parents.

Parenting program needed

"That tells us, one, that there is a need for such a parenting program on the Island and it also tells us that the government is very focused on having healthy, positive families on the island and that the support is very important," said Peter Mutch.

75 parents using program

According to the Ministry of Education, Early Learning and Culture, 75 parents were using the online program as of June 9. In addition, 76 practitioners, including nurses, family workers and psychologists are accredited in the program.

The program provides positive, simple parenting advice through online modules or group seminars. It is available for parents and caregivers to help deal with the challenges that arise from raising children up to age 12. Teen Triple P is available for parents with kids between ages 12 and 16.
