CHARLOTTETOWN — Prince Edward Island has become the last province to report a case of COVID-19 connected to a variant strain of the virus first identified in the United Kingdom.

Chief public health officer Dr. Heather Morrison made the announcement today, saying the case involves a man in his 20s who has a history of international travel.

The case was first identified and reported on Feb. 4 and the individual is in self-isolation.

Morrison says the variant case was found through routine testing done by the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg.

With P.E.I’s announcement, all 10 provinces in Canada have now identified cases of the novel coronavirus variant first discovered in the U.K.

Premier Dennis King says the active case count in the province remains at two.
