P.E.I. snowfall is just the beginning

Winter is here.

Islanders in many parts of the province woke up to snow on the ground this morning.

The dusting prompted many to take to social media — some in celebration, some in despair.

There were a few centimetres of the white stuff on the ground in Charlottetown, less than the five to 10 centimetres that was forecast.

RCMP report most highways are clear after Sunday night's snowfall, though officers did report some slippery conditions Sunday evening and overnight.

Salt trucks were deployed to help keep roads clear, and the Transportation Department sent trucks back out around dawn to clean up after a snow squall east of Summerside.

This is not the end of the snow, according to CBC meteorologist Peter Coade.

Coade forecasts a further five centimetres of snow will fall in eastern P.E.I. The flurries will be heavy at times with strong winds, which could impact visibility.
