Provincial police divers have found the body of a 28-year-old man from Gatineau who drowned after falling off his paddleboard, a Sûreté du Québec spokesperson said.
The man was found about 50 metres from the shore, not far from the place where he had originally fallen in the water Saturday night, police said.
Quebec provincial police divers had been searching for him in the waters near Oka provincial park Sunday morning.
A second man in his twenties had also fallen off his paddleboard in the Lake of Two Mountains Saturday night, but people near the scene were able to pull him to safety.
Neither were wearing life jackets, but they had life jackets on their paddleboards, police said.
A coroner's investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding this drowning.
As of Aug. 21, the Quebec division of the Lifesaving Society recorded 71 drownings since the beginning of the year, compared to 50 on the same date in 2019.
