‘I paid more income taxes than Donald Trump.’ Biden merchandise throws shade at Trump

Joe Biden’s campaign wasted no time attempting to cash in on a bombshell report from The New York Times on Donald Trump’s federal income tax payments, which found the president paid no income taxes in 10 out of 15 years since 2000.

A few hours after the Times released its findings, the Biden campaign’s fundraising website released new vinyl stickers that read, “I paid more income taxes than Donald Trump.”

It also released an ad detailing the average income tax payments for elementary school teachers, firefighters, construction managers and nurses. The ad ended with what Trump reportedly paid in 2017 — $750, according to the Times.

“His finances are under stress, beset by losses and hundreds of millions of dollars in debt coming due that he has personally guaranteed,” the Times report reads. “Also hanging over him is a decade-long audit battle with the Internal Revenue Service over the legitimacy of a $72.9 million tax refund that he claimed, and received, after declaring huge losses. An adverse ruling could cost him more than $100 million.”

Trump has dismissed the report as “total fake news” but did not provide evidence to back up his claim.

Biden, who will publicly debate Trump for the first time Tuesday night, has not publicly commented on the Times article. Other notable Democrats, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Sen. Bernie Sanders, each ripped the president on Twitter.

“Donald Trump paid just $750 in income taxes in 2016 and 2017. He knows better than anyone that there’s one set of rules for the wealthy and giant corporations and another for hardworking Americans—and instead of using his power to fix it, he’s taken advantage of it at every turn,” Warren said.

“Shock of shocks! Donald Trump, the self-proclaimed billionaire, received a $72.9 million tax refund from the IRS while not paying a nickel in federal income taxes in 10 out of 15 years,” said Sanders. “Yep. Trump l-o-v-e-s corporate socialism for himself, rugged capitalism for everyone else.”
