Paige VanZant, husband Austin Vanderford dealing with COVID-19 scare
Both Paige VanZant and her husband Austin Vanderford are dealing with a COVID-19 scare, she announced on social media on Monday.
The myriad of symptoms she is suddenly dealing with, VanZant wrote, have left her feeling “absolutely terrible.”
“Well, we are officially sick,” she wrote on Instagram, in part. “We need your help, though. So Austin was starting to get sick and tested positive. I immediately went and got tested and it came back negative … The next day I started getting sick and have progressively been getting worse the last few days.
“Today I feel absolutely terrible!!!!! … I have a 102 fever and tons of other symptoms. [Austin] has been sick this whole time since he tested positive a month ago.”
Vanderford out of Bellator 246
Vanderford was set to take on Daniel Madrid at Bellator 246 on Saturday, though he had to pull out of the bout due to his coronavirus diagnosis.
He said on Instagram on Saturday that it marked the second time that he’s tested positive.
“To say it’s a bummer is a serious understatement,” he wrote, in part. “But I’m going to rest up and recover now. I’ll be ready to go ASAP. Stay healthy and safe.”

VanZant also posted a video of the two to YouTube titled, “MY HUSBAND GAVE ME COVID!!” on Monday, detailing Vanderford’s diagnosis, her coronavirus test and more.
Though her test came back negative every time, VanZant believes she has the coronavirus too — as her symptoms are the same as her husband’s. Vanderford said that they had “like five teammates” test positive, too, “so it totally makes sense for us to have it.”
“I have absolutely all the symptoms,” she said in the video. “I have a bad cough. My head, I’ve taken like 12 Advil today because I have a migraine so bad that I feel like my head is going to explode. My eyes hurt really bad.”
There were more than 6.3 million confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the United States as of Tuesday afternoon, according to The New York Times, and nearly 190,000 deaths attributed to it.
VanZant, 26, last fought in July at UFC 251, where she lost to Amanda Ribas. She has since left the UFC and signed a four-fight deal with the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship worth more than $1 million.
