Parc Safari apologizes for making aide of boy with autism pay full price

Parc Safari is apologizing for making Agathe Loiselle pay full admission for her son's specialized educator.

Her five-year-old son Georges is severely autistic and non-verbal. He requires one-on-one adult supervision at all times because he tends to run away and has no sense of danger.

Loiselle has four children between the ages of one and seven. On Tuesday, she decided to treat them with a visit to see the animals.

Loiselle brought along Georges' specialized educator to help. She carries a doctor's note with her at all times, so she can prove Georges' disability.

But once the family arrived, an employee at Parc Safari informed Loiselle the educator would have to pay the full $45 admission price.

"I asked to see three supervisors there. They said, that under twelve, any child is supposed to be with his parents. But I told them, I am alone, a mother with four kids," she says.

"My kids are preventing from doing activities if I can't bring this educator, but Parc Safari refused."

Loiselle says she paid for the $45 ticket so her children could have fun, but she took to Facebook to share her anger. That post has been shared nearly 20,000 times.

Loiselle also filed a complaint with the provincial body for disabled people.

Parc Safari says it is trying to get in touch with Loiselle to apologize and will offer her a full refund. The zoo will also update its policy.
