Part of Martin Luther King Boulevard in downtown Lexington will be closed for a month for sanitary sewer construction.

A section of Lexington’s Martin Luther King Boulevard will close Monday for sanitary sewer construction.

MLK Boulevard will be closed between East Fifth Street and Rand Avenue, the city said in a news release. The road is expected to reopen by Dec. 27.

Drivers heading north can take East Fifth Street and North Limestone around the construction, while those heading south can take East Sixth Street and Elm Tree Lane. The city said homes on Martin Luther King Boulevard will be accessible throughout the construction. People who need to access Engman Alley can do so via Rand Avenue.

The city said the construction “is a continuation of sanitary sewer work in the area to replace existing sewer lines that often require additional maintenance due to age.”
