One dead in crash that caused hourslong closure on U.S. Route 322 in Centre County

One person died in a crash on U.S. Route 322 in Centre County Wednesday evening.

The crash involving two vehicles and a tractor trailer occurred around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 1900 block of Boal Avenue, the State College Police Department wrote in a press release. A preliminary investigation indicates a Dodge truck was traveling west on Boal Avenue when it crossed into the opposite lane, and collided with a tractor trailer, the release states.

The tractor trailer went off of the roadway and flipped onto its side, police said. The Dodge truck struck a second vehicle before it came to a rest on the berm.

“The driver of the truck was pronounced dead on scene and the other two drivers reported no injuries,” the release states. “The names of the involved parties are being withheld until all family notifications can be made.”

The road was closed between the Old Fort and Potters Mills exits for about eight hours after the crash, according to the state Department of Transportation.

State College police were assisted by Boalsburg Fire Department and Fire Police, the Centre County Coroner’s Office, PennDOT and Centre Lifelink EMS.
