Parts of this Tacoma interstate will be closed for construction starting Sept. 11

If you take Interstate 705 in Tacoma during your commute, you might want to start devising an alternate route.

Two southbound I-705 lanes are set to be removed and replaced this week with hot-mix asphalt, the city of Tacoma announced in a Sept. 5 news release. The work is expected to start Wednesday, Sept. 11, and conclude Friday, Sept. 13, and is weather-dependent.

The two affected lanes are beneath Firefighter’s Park, 801 A. St.

Southbound on-ramps at Stadium Way and Schuster Parkway will be off-limits starting 8 a.m. Wednesday until 7 p.m. Friday, according to the city. Detours will be available.
