Paul Raci is being praised for using sign language during a red carpet interview ahead of the 2021 Oscars.

On Sunday, the actor, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as a deaf sober coach in Sound of Metal, spoke with E! News’ Giuliana Rancic ahead of the awards show.

While discussing his role in the film and the importance of accurately portraying the deaf community, Raci simultaneously signed as he spoke.

At one point, Raci shared his praise for the film’s director Darius Marder, telling Rancic that the film was vetted with deaf people all across the country and that there were also three deaf advisors on the set.

“So he was very inclusive in that way,” Raci, who is the son of two deaf parents, explained.

On social media, Raci’s use of sign language during the interview was met with approval from viewers, who shared their support for the “incredible” display of inclusivity.

“Paul Raci using sign language in his E! Red Carpet interview is incredible and important,” one person tweeted.

Another said: “Gotta say, I love that Paul Raci has been signing all throughout this awards season and during his acceptance speeches for his wins.”

#paulraci effortlessly and un-dramatically signing on the red carpet was beyond cool,” someone else added.
